Learn How to Protect Your Rights with Copyrights, Trademarks & Website Protection

This 8-hour CE course helps nurse entrepreneurs and educators enhance their work without infringing on others' copyright protections. It shows nurses how to protect their rights in starting, growing and maintaining a business and creating educational materials for patients, clients and the public and avoid important legal blind spots when they create and share information.

Participants will learn what legal protection is needed in 3 key areas: Copyrights, Trademarks, and Protecting Website Content. This course includes pdf Tip Sheets and audio recordings that nurses can listen to on any device.

Copyright law can seem confusing. Are you unsure about what Copyright protection is or when to use the Copyright symbol in your work? In this lesson, you’ll learn Copyright 101 for Nurses – the essential basics.

trademarks for nurse educators and business ownersLesson #2 - What You Should Trademark - Have you been thinking about Trademarking a business name or logo? In this lesson, you'll learn the basics about Trademarks: what they are, how they protect your brand, what you can (and should!) Trademark, why Trademarking is considered a crowning achievement, and whether owning the website URL is enough to claim ownership of your brand.

It happens more often than you might know. In this lesson, you'll learn what to do if someone copies your website content and what strong legal language you can put in place to support your rights.

herbs and medical claimsBONUS - How to Avoid Making Medical Claims in Your Business - When you're passionate about a program you've created or teaching about products like herbs or essential oils, you'll naturally want to speak as boldly as you can to let people know the benefits they can receive. However, this can get you into legal trouble if you cross the line into making medical or disease claims. This bonus lesson helps you stay in the safe zone.

Intellectual property is a complex issue. Although certain situations are relatively clear-cut, the answer to other questions is often "It depends."

Some nurse entrepreneurs and nurse educators have not considered how they can or cannot legally use works created by others or even by themselves in a previous job position. Other nurses who do consider the legality of use have inadvertently based their actions on misinformation. Either way, ignorance regarding intellectual property, copyrights, trademarks and website content protection is not a justification for misusing material and can put one at risk for litigation.
